Costa Blanca`s Vessel Positions Tracking

I have installed an AIS Radio Base Station which is an automatic tracking system used on ships and by vessel traffic services for identifying and locating vessels by electronically exchanging data with other nearby ships, AIS base stations, and satellites.

If you install an AIS transponder on your sailing boat your position will be visible over the Internet.

Covering La Manga and Inland with APRS

The area of La Manga del Mar Menor lies right at the most southern part of the Costa Blanca. Depending on which map you look at, La Manga is situated on the Costa Calida to be precise.
The area of the Mar Menor ( little sea ) is almost totally separated from the Mediteranean Sea due to the “La Manga del Mar Menor” which means “the sleeve of the little sea”. A very small strip of land is around 13 miles long and makes up the lagoon of Mar Menor which making it a size of 160 sq. km., a very interesting natural attraction. The choice of beaches is almost endless, from the wild dunes to the south, to the gently sloping safe beaches of the Mar Menor. Being shallow, the Mar Menor is often a little warmer than the Mediterranean.

Great for the Holidaymakers too

My iGate is located near a main city of a holiday hotspot area on the Southern Costa Blanca. There are many summer visitors and hamradio operators spending their vacation and enjoying the APRS while exploring the area, just like this OM from Germany - DC6OY

Raspberry Pi - full system backup

If you have some routine with linux you can configure a Raspberry Pi for APRS system including FTP & WEB & Remote Desktop & Webcam server in about 2.5 hours starting with an empty SD card.

Note.: the SD card type matters a lot!
The most stabile SD card for me is the SanDisk 8GB Extreme SDHC Class 10 High Performance (30MB/second) (15-20EUR)
(Hama and Transcend were either way to slow or got corrupted sectors after a short period of time with my raspberry Pi`s)

So, in case you want to avoid spending time on re-configuration of a new SD card, you can make a backup image of your system using the Win32DiskImager software.

Once you fully configured your system, make a backup and you are safe in case of SD card failure.

Feedback on my iGate Blog - my blog motivates more people- new iGate EA5URR-15

firstname: Angel - EA5HNU
email: angel.tomas@XXXXXXXXXXX
message: Many thanks, your article are magnificent.

Here's the result of work done for EA5URR-15, a standalone node, low-power, battery-backed, baofeng UV3R, TNC-pi, Raspberry, temperature and humidity sensor, and a fan to cool the box.
Using bash scripts I can control the fan is activated depending on the temperature of the box or microprocessor, whether there is a failure of AC by a relay and send me a message via my mobile internet for the local jabber server (is like a chat), so that is monitored 24 hours.
The message says something like: EA5URR-15 AC Failed
Also I added a USB wifi dongle to connect to T2Spain through a 2.4 GHz wireless link of 4.4 km that reaches my QTH, where routing to the internet.

DX reception by the APRS iGate

My APRS iGate is located in Southern Spain and able to receive an APRS digipeater from Italy in a distance of 1451kms over the Mediterranean Sea. The remote digipeater`s callsign is IW8RUI-11, located on a hilltop at 1660m and transmitting 10Watts. As the stats show my iGate catched 4 packets so far.
